The calendar has flipped to October, and across the motorsport world, championships are crossing their final finish lines. This applied a few weeks ago to the British GT Championship, which returned to its traditional spot for the season finale: the formidable Donington Park. Dubbed the “Donington Decider,” it was a high-stakes showdown with both the GT3 and GT4 titles hanging in the balance.
The day was a masterclass in challenging conditions. The unpredictable weather, coupled with a constant, gusty wind—the lingering effect of Storm Amy—made life difficult for everyone. In qualifying, the GT3 cars certainly felt the sting.
The two-hour race itself delivered multiple bursts of rain, throwing a huge wrench into team strategies. The question was a constant headache for crews and drivers: stick it out on slicks or gamble on wets? Some gambled brilliantly, others didn’t, and the changing track surface ensured there was never a dull moment.
As the race unfolded, the GT3 Championship was taking serious, unexpected twists. Title contenders 2Seas and Blackthorn both ran into trouble, including a contact incident between the two at the Old Hairpin. This chaos allowed Barwell Motorsport to seize control. Their pair of Lamborghinis took off from the start and never looked back, ultimately claiming a dominant one-two finish.
The GT4 battle was a straight-up fight for the title between Optimum Motorsport in their McLarens and Century Motorsport driving the BMWs. In the end, it was a commanding performance that settled the score, with Optimum winning the GT4 race and sealing the title dominantly.
When the checkered flag finally fell, we had our season champions:
• GT3 Pro/Am Title: 2Seas Motorsport
• GT3 Silver/Am Title: Beechdean AMR
• GT4 Championship: Optimum Motorsport
• GT4 Endurance Title: Team Parker Racing
