So, we shot off for the second race weekend of the year, and it turned into one of the hottest days in the UK so far. We were down at Silverstone for the British GT 500, their 3-hour endurance race. Honestly, not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
As usual, the 500 pulled in some extra teams wanting a piece of the action. Blackthorn threw in a second Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Century and Paradine Competition rocked up with BMW M4 GT3’s, and Ferrari had a good showing thanks to Spirit of Race and Kessell Racing. Oh, and let’s not forget Stellar rolling out their Audi R8 GT3! Down in GT4, it was pretty much the same bunch of cars we saw battling it out at Donington.
The race itself was a real nail-biter, all about pit stop strategy. The safety cars kept popping out, throwing curveballs for everyone. Some teams decided to roll the dice, pitting more than others and pushing their driver’s driving timings. Others tried to play it cool and stick to the usual three-stop plan.
In the end, it was a pretty sweet day for the guest teams. The big overall win went to the Paradine BMW M4 GT3 EVO! Stellar’s Audi R8 grabbed the win in GT3 Silver/Am. And GT4? It was McLaren’s game again, with Optimum taking the honours.
