Just another quick reminder that Motorsport can and is Dangerous, This on-board video from Team LNT’s Ginetta G55 GT3 (Factory Ginetta Team) shows what a light weight door can do to a windscreen when your traveling at about 140mph. Mike Simpson who was driving at the time didn’t let it get to him though, put his visor down and kept on going.
Video Description:
Ginetta’s Mike Simpson refused to let a 140mph collision with a rogue door slow him down in the Avon Tyres British GT at Brands Hatch on August 11, as the factory driver kept it lit throughout the remainder of the lap before slowing down to enter the pits.
Running in third place, the Ginetta works driver was chasing down second position when the unavoidable contact occurred, leaving the number 16 car with a destroyed radiator and windscreen and forcing them into retirement.
Mike Simpson said; “Team LNT had a cracking opening 10 laps in British GT, climbing from 17th to third over the opening laps. As we continue to establish the G55 GT3 as a capable GT3 car, the collision was an issue outside of our control, yes it destroyed the windscreen and the radiator, but it’s a good job we build them strong at Ginetta, or it could have been a different story!”
