Trackside: British GT 2019 Oulton Park

For another year we were in attendance for the first two races of the 2019 British GT season. Held on the usual Easter Monday, this year the sun was out and the temperature was up in the low 20’s. Perfect weather to watch GT3 and GT4 cars lapping the narrow and fast Oulton Park.

The season opener saw new cars and new teams competing in a very competitive field. In GT3 we have the new Aston Martin GT3 Vantage with its V8 Twin Turbo engine snarling at every chance. Along with new entrants JRM with there new Bentley Continental GT3 again with a V8 twin turbo.

GT4 sees plenty of new Aston Martin GT4 vantages taking on a field that is packed to the brim. Ford also has some Mustang GT4’s which are new to the championship along with the KTM X-Bow. For the first time in a long while, there were no Ginetta GT4’s which are normally very competitive.

Race 1

Race 1 saw the Bentley of JRM dominate out front after the Bentley of Parker Racing hit the Mercedes AMG of Ram Racing when trying to take the lead. This put both cars out on the spot leaving JRM to take the win although they had to work hard. After the pitstops, the Lamborghini of Barwell Motorsport was putting pressure on to catch them. Third went to Optimum Motorsport with their new Aston Martin GT3.

GT4 ended up being a Mclaren affair as they locked out the top three spots with the 570S GT4’s of HHC Motorsport and Tolman Motorsport.

Race 2

Race 2 was a different story as Barwell took the top spot in GT3 with the Lambo, while Abba Racing powered there Mercedes AMG to second. The real drive of the race came from the Beechdean Aston Martin, they were able to climb from 7^th to 3^rd in a battle for the last spot on the podium.

GT4 went the way of the new arrivals, Multimatic Motorsports with there Ford Mustang GT4. Starting from pole, but dropping back during the pitstops. Only to race back through to first place. Second, went to the Balfe Mclaren and third to the impressive Invictus Games Racing Jaguar.
