British GT 2016 from Donington Park Gallery & Video
Two weeks ago, the British GT championship was at Donington Park for the final British GT round of the 2016 Season. We headed down to watch the 2 hour race and see who was going to walk away with the title in both GT3 and GT4.
In GT3 there was last years title winner Andrew Howard for Beechdean AMR, with an out side chance, but the main race for the title was between TF Sport’s Jonny Adam and Derek Johnston in there Aston Martin V12 GT3 and Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen in the Barwell Motorsport run Lamborghini Huracan GT3. TF sport went into the race on pole, and had a decent start, but dropped to second behind the Mclaren 650S GT3 of Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse who would go on to win the race. The Huracan GT3 of Minshaw and Keen, was making progress up through the grid but things took a turn for the worst when trying to overtake a GT4 car down at the old hairpin half way through the race. As you will see in the photos, it didn’t end well, the Huracan span off the circuit and ended up in the gravel. This put a end to there title challenge and handed the championship to TF sport who went on to finish second.
In GT4 the new for this year Mclaren 570S GT4 took the win, after dominating the whole race, 10 seconds back was a stalwart of the GT4 class, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 of Generation AMR. Bringing it home in third was another GT4 stalwart, a Ginetta G55 GT4 this one belonging to 2016 GT4 champions Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson of Optimum Motorsport.
Once again the British GT put on a great show, and we will be looking forward to the 2017 season starting up. Until then have a look at both the video and gallery.
