The last weekend of September saw us at Brands Hatch for the British GT 2024 final round. Usually, this event goes down at Donington Park, but the venue switch was a nice change, especially since the weather was on our side that day.
The GT3 title was up for grabs, with both the #63 and #78 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in the running, plus a shot for the #77 Garage 59 McLaren 720s GT3 Evo. Over in GT4, it was all about Forsetti Motorsport with their #7 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 and Optimum Motorsport’s #90 McLaren Artura GT4.
Right from the start, the race was a bit of a mess. The 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes AMG got stuck in the gravel at Turn 1, Paddock Hill Bend, which brought out the safety car and set the tone for a chaotic race. There were a bunch of long Full Course Yellows, and the safety car popped up several times during the 2-hour race.
In GT4, the title went to #90 Optimum Motorsport’s Brown and Meakin, who dominated by taking the lead early and leaving the #7 Forsetti Motorsport Aston in second place. But GT3 was a bit trickier. The race winner was #2 Team RJN in a McLaren 720s GT3 Evo, but they didn’t score any points. So, the #78 Lamborghini from Barwell ended up racking up the full points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the #63 Lamborghini from snagging the title by just 5 points, thanks to the Collards finishing 5th.
