Trackside: British GT Silverstone 500 2024
Another round of the British GT championship completed, another wet and cold day trackside. It’s always a bit of a gamble visiting Silverstone, it’s either going to be nice and warm, or bitterly cold and wet. If you had seen the live stream of the race, you would have seen the challenges the teams faced. That was evident as the race started under the safety car, and teams scrambled to play strategy games.
As usual, the weather threw the race on its head, and after all the on-track action was finished. It was Garage 59 with the Mclaren GT3 Evo that came out on top in GT3, after having a slow start, they worked their strategy just right to take the overall win, after Century Motorsport in the BMW M4 GT3 somehow threw the race away. In GT4 the Mclaren Artura from Optimum Motorsport played their cards right and grabbed the overall GT4 win, giving Mclaren the perfect weekend.
Beechdean and Blackthorn in the Aston Martin GT3 Evo’s had a race to forget, strategy and mistakes costing them dear, unfortunately. Forsetti Motorsport once again got onto the podium with the GT4 Aston though for a silver lining for the British manufacturer. JRM in their Mclaren GT3 had a great showing, along with Abba Motorsport in the Mercedes GT3 Evo as both grabbed the remaining podium positions. While the new Lotus Emira GT4 with Mahiki Racing finished off the in the final GT4 podium position.
Once again the British GT Championship put on another great race, plenty of on-track action, some mistakes and a couple of incidents. We just need the remaining races to be dry and with the sun shining.
We will be back out trackside for British GT later in the year, at both Donington Park and Brands Hatch.
