Porsche wins the 24 Hours of Le Mans as Ford announces GTE return.
Porsche took a dominant 1-2 win over Audi with Toyota struggling for pace and the new Nissan LMP1’s enduring an even tougher race. First time Le Mans competitor Nico Hulkenburg took the chequered flag in the 19 Porsche 919 Hybrid (Earl Bamber, Nick Tandy) ahead of Brendon Hartly in the 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid (Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber) marking the 17 time Porsche has won the famous race. Audi crossed the line in third with the 7 car of Marcel Fassler, André Lotterer, Benoît Treluyer, with the number 8 Audi behind that. For more results head here.

The big news to come from Le Mans this year is the return of Ford to endurance racing in 2016. They will be fielding the new Ford GT in the GTE Pro class in the FIA WEC and in the GTLM class in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship with Chip Ganassi Racing. The GT will be powered by a 3.5L Twin Turbo (EcoBoost) V6, the same engine is already used in the Chip Ganassi Racing Daytona Prototype’s. Drivers will be announced soon, and when more information is available we will update.
