PLR at Rockingham
Back at the end of March, we took the R56 down to Rockingham for the #Trackaddicts track day, that was been held. It was the first time we had the R56 out on track since getting the car back in 2017, but during that time quite a bit has changed which we are to document later with some blog posts. But back to the track day, we went down with Luke of Junsport.co.uk, who shared the car with us.
With it being March you can probably guess what the weather was like. We woke up to a nice grey sky and moisture in the air, in other word’s once we got on track it was wet and greasy. Perfect condition to test the waters as to what the car can do on-track. We had a little bit of last minute prep to do before heading out in the morning, but we also wanted to let the track to clean up a little before heading out. Once we got out on track the first session was a tentative let’s see how much grip there is, affair. But gradually as the day went on, the confidence built and we were able to push harder. The first thing that became apparent was the brake set-up was coping well, with us being able to brake later then quite a few cars.
We had one or two teething problems in the morning but once they were ironed out, the car performed faultlessly. The main one being that the right rear top mount became loose, which was odd considering these were pre-torqued during the build process by the manufacturer. But it was an easy fix and didn’t take long for us to rectify. We found weak areas as was to be expected, but it actually was surprising to see how well the car was performing. So much so, we probably surprised a few people by keeping up or overtaking them. The one thing that is very much apparently needed for the next track day is some sticky track tires, as although working very well the Pirelli P Zero we were running was the cars limiting factor.
