Brands Hatch certainly delivered a finale to remember as we headed trackside for the final round of the 2026 British GT Championship. With both the GT3 and GT4 titles still to be decided, there was plenty at stake. By the time the chequered flag fell, it was Orange Racing by JMH celebrating GT3 championship glory in the #67 McLaren GT3 Evo, after a dramatic two-hour race that had plenty of twists and turns.
The GT3 race was anything but straightforward. Barwell Motorsport led the opening stages in the #63 Lamborghini, but the pressure from Orange Racing by JMH soon started to build. The McLaren moved into second and began chipping away at the gap, before a mistake from Barwell Motorsport at Sheen Curve changed everything. The Lamborghini ended up in the gravel, bringing an unexpected end to their championship hopes and handing the lead to Orange Racing by JMH. From there, the team kept things tidy and brought the McLaren home to take the win. Optimum Motorsport followed in second with its #77 McLaren, while the team’s #90 car originally crossed the line third before later being disqualified for being underweight. That meant a McLaren 1-2-3 was on the cards, although the final classification was changed after the post-race checks.
Away from the main championship battle, there were plenty of other stories playing out across the GT3 field. Century Motorsport took the GT3 Silver-Am win with its #44 BMW M4 GT3 Evo, while Barwell Motorsport still had plenty to celebrate after securing the Teams’ Championship and GT3 Silver-Am title with its #78 Lamborghini. The team also secured the SRO GT Academy prize and a drive in next year’s 24 Hours of Spa. 2 Seas Motorsport endured a tougher afternoon in its #18 Mercedes-AMG, including a drive-through penalty, while Beechdean Motorsport brought its #7 Aston Martin home fifth. The race also marked the final British GT appearance for Beechdean team principal Andrew Howard after 157 races.
The GT4 title fight was every bit as close. Optimum Motorsport’s #59 McLaren Artura GT4 controlled the race from the opening corner to take a comfortable class victory, but all eyes were on the battle behind between Grange Racing by FSR and MK Racing. The Aston Martin teams went into the finale with the championship still to settle, and the fight went right down to the wire. Grange Racing by FSR crossed the line just 0.250 seconds ahead of MK Racing, enough to secure the overall GT4 championship on countback. MK Racing could still celebrate taking the GT4 Silver Cup title, while Grange Racing by FSR added another championship to an already impressive season.
For us, Brands Hatch was a great way to round off the British GT season. Being trackside and seeing the racing, teams, cars and atmosphere up close really showed just how competitive and popular the championship has been throughout 2026. From championship drama and last-minute battles to the smaller stories happening throughout the field, the Brands Hatch finale had everything you could want from a British GT weekend — and we’re already looking forward to seeing what next season brings.
