Trackside | British GT 2022 @ Oulton Park Round 1 & 2 Gallery and Video:
Over the Easter weekend, the British GT championship held its first two rounds, and once again we headed down trackside to watch the action. With another healthy grid this year the competition is fraught with top teams.
All the usual teams are back Ram Racing, Barwell, Balfe, Abba, Century, and more across the GT3 and GT4 classes. This year McLaren has got the biggest representation with 6 GT3’s and 2 GT4’s. While Merc has 5 GT3’s, BMW has 1 GT3 with the new M4 and 2 GT4’s. Audi has 1 apiece in each class, while Aston Martin has lost a presence in GT3 for now, but has 2 GT4 cars entered. Porsche are in with 1 GT3 and 2 GT4’s, while Lamborghini has 3 GT3’s. Bentley (GT3), Ford (GT4), Toyota (GT4) and Ginetta (GT4) all have one car each to round out the entry list.
Race one saw a titanic battle between Balfe in their new Audi R8 LMS Evo II GT3, and Ram racing in their Pink Merc GT3. From the first door bashing, all the way to the final lap, the two were nose to tail. With Balfe coming out on top after a spectacular final stint between the two. In GT4, penalties from the pitstops caused the leader board to change drastically, with Newbridge and their Aston GT4 going from 1st to 5th, while Steller Motorsport made it an Audi race one knockout.
Race two, now this was a bizarre one. Rain, a red flag, and strange pitstop window and a team protesting the final result. To us on the ground, Ram racing took the win, as they crossed the line holding off the Audi of Balfe Motorsport. But in fact due to penalties applied from the weird pitstop under red flag situation. Paddock Motorsport in their recently acquired Mclaren took the win. GT4 was a lot more straight forward with Newbridge taking the win in the Aston GT4 from Century’s BMW GT4.
Once again a decent day at Oulton Park, British GT putting on a great show, with plenty of track action.
