For the May Day Bank Holiday, the British GT Championship unusually visited Oulton Park, moving from its traditional opening round position. With the tight and twisty circuit less than an hour from us, we shot down to see what would happen.
Following the three-hour endurance event at Silverstone, the Oulton Park rounds offered a distinct challenge: two intense one-hour sprint races. In typical British fashion, the weather played its part, providing sunny conditions for the first race and a mix of rain for the second.
Race 1 saw a commanding performance from Barwell Motorsport, as their #1 Lamborghini led from start to finish to claim their first victory of the season. Behind them, Blackthorn’s #7 AMR Vantage, which started in second, fell to third during the pit stops, allowing the #18 2 Seas Mercedes AMG to move up from third to second. The GT4 category witnessed a dramatic incident when the leading #71 Century Motorsport BMW M4 suffered a major crash, paving the way for Optimum Motorsport’s #90 McLaren Artura to take the win. Mahiki Racing’s #69 Lotus Emira secured the runner-up spot, with the #14 Century Motorsport BMW M4 completing the podium.
The second race unfolded in wetter, more unpredictable conditions, causing tyre strategy headaches for many teams. 2 Seas expertly navigated the challenges, with their #13 Mercedes clinching victory. A hard-charging #67 McLaren from Orange Racing finished second, while the impressive #86 Bridger Motorsport Honda NSX, in only its fourth British GT appearance, stormed to third. In GT4, Optimum Motorsport celebrated a 1-2 finish, with the #90 car once again leading home the #17. Mahiki Racing’s #69 Lotus Emira repeated its third-place result in a GT4 field that had noticeably thinned compared to the Donington and Silverstone rounds.Don’t forget to check out the image gallery below and also the trackside video.
