Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at Silverstone Video and Gallery
For the first time over the last weekend we headed off to watch a Blancpain event, this one being the GT Endurance Cup at Silverstone. Ever since the Blancpain series emerged out of the old school FIA GT1 Championship, and we mean Aston Martin DBR9, Maserati MC12 old school, we have not been to spectate at one of these events. But it was nice to go to a series that we have kept tabs on ever since those days. Plus the weather helped out massively, and the on-track action was great as always.
It was nice to see an “old” girl beating the newer generation GT3 cars to pole position and getting the win, with the Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 out pacing the rest of the field. It was a little surprising, but then again the Vantage has always done well at Silverstone, still it is a nice swan song to a car that will be replaced next year. The new Bentley GT3’s look massive on track and to be honest I was expecting more from them, maybe the GT3 BOP is not being overly fair to them at the moment? Plus one got into a wrestling match from the looks of it so that would not have helped. The new Nissan looks very sleek, but also looks like there is more to unlock under that huge frame. Lamborghini and Audi both have bloody quick cars, every time we see them they look bloody fast and so controlled. It’s no wonder they take so many wins really.
From what we saw there was only one “big” accident near the start of the race, when a Mercedes went on at the first corner, although we heard the accident we didn’t get to see it. Instead we got to see the ballet that was two cars tangling at the loop. With such a big grid it was great to watch the cars duke it out on track and race side by side, even if there was a little contact. Anyway please check out the gallery below, and if you haven’t already the track side video above.
