It was due to happen one day, but I didn’t expect it to come now. Audi have announced this year will be there last in the FIA WEC and they will not be returning to Le mans next year. There have been rumors this was going to happen but they all pointed to next year being the farewell year. As it turns out they were almost right, just a year out. Audi has been a big part of endurance racing for almost 20 years now, well 18 years…. I cant remember watching an ACO held race and a Audi not been competing in it. Next year will be strange not hearing the whisper quite Diesel LMP1’s fly past at unprecedented speed, but everything comes to a end eventually. So cheers to Audi for sticking around and raising the level of the sport so high in the last 18 years!
