This is PLR friend and associate, Olly Button’s latest project. His Battleship Grey Polo Track Car, although that was not the idea when he first bought the car. It was originally going to be a daily driver, back when he had the Cupra R project going. Unfortunately circumstances meant the Cupra R never got finished, but that didn’t mean it was the last project Olly was going to undertake.
So at first the Polo was bought as a daily driver while the Cupra R was the project car. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to do anything with it even if it was his daily. One of the first things that got done was a set of coil-over’s added and some newish rims to replace the standard original ones.
Then It was time to replace the head, once that was done that was suppose to be it for the daily Polo. But this been Olly that didn’t last long, as you will find out of the next few Project updates. By this point the fate of the Cupra R had been set in stone, and the Project bug had bitten Olly once again. Although at first he hadn’t decided on a full on track build he had decided on the new colour for the car.
So the Prep work started, sanding the whole body down to a point that the new paint would have a good base to bite into. Then it was onto cleaning the car and finding any dints that would be a problem and filling them, and priming them. Along with welding some new plate into the side skirt which had been damaged and making sure that the weld was made smooth and primed.
Then it was time to make the spraying booth with a large easy-up, and making up the windows and wheels. Removing things that didn’t need to be sprayed, door handles, indicators etc. Once the Polo was ready then the first coat of grey was laid down making sure nothing was missed.
After the final coat was applied, and left to dry, the bumpers, mirrors, lights, indicators, etc were fixed back into there original places, Along with some new Rim’s to finish the car off for now. But the story for this Polo is not finished, we haven’t even got to the point it was decided to go full track car, that’s still to come. but for now we will leave you with the image above so you can see how the Polo turned out after her re-spray.
