British GT 2018 from Donington Park: Video and Gallery
Last weekend we were down at Donington Park for the final round of the 2018 British GT Championship. Both GT3 and GT4 championships were up for grabs, and it was also possibly the final time the current Aston Martin V8 & V12 Vantages will race in the series. In GT3 we had Flick Haigh/Johnny Adam in there Aston V12 GT3 and Jon Minshaw/Phil Keen in there Lambo GT3 going for the title. Though the only way the Lambo could win was if the Aston finished lower then 6th.
In GT4 we had a much wider championship that could have gone to any of the 4 teams in the running. Both BMW M4 GT4’s of Century Motorsport were in the running. Along with Tolmon Motorsport’s McLaren, and HHC Motorsport’s Ginetta with an outside chance.
As always with the British GT, the racing was quick and frantic, with plenty of overtaking taking place. Watching Nicki Thiim in his TF Sport Aston GT3 catch and overtake Phil Keen in the Barwell Lambo was a sight to see, even if he was hit with a penalty. Leaving the race win to the Lambo. Championship wise GT3 went to Flick Haigh/Johnny Adam in the Optimum Aston, and GT4 went to Jack Mitchell in the Century BMW.
History was made with the first female British GT3 champion in Flick Haigh, and I would say that is also a good swansong to the Aston Martin V12 GT3. Its most likely the last time we will see that car racing, and the last V12 to race in GT3 competition. As next year the new Aston Vantage GT3 & GT4 will be racing, which is powered by a V8 twin turbo.
